| 10/06/03 | Better body builders for Iveco? | In a more likely to be followed by other truck makers, Iveco has decided on new rules for its body builders. The company has told body builders that to get and stay on its Accredited Body Builder list they'll need accreditation to ISO9000 series quality standards. They will also need to sign a commitment to stick to Iveco's body building guidelines when fitting bodies to Iveco chassis. Industry observers say it was only a matter of time before a major truck maker made a move like this and expect others to follow. The changes in the pipeline to vehicle approval mean that any serious body builder should already have or at least be in the process of getting ISO 9000 series accreditation. Iveco has probably done the body building industry a valuable service by underlining the importance of quality standards. More from John Procter on +44 (0)1 923 259 526 or procter@iveco.com |

| 22/09/03 | Bigger incentives needed for biofuels | Rural affairs minister, Lord Whitty, says the Treasury tax cuts on biofuels are too small and jeopardise Britain's hopes of meeting European targets for alternative fuels. Speaking to the UK parliament's environment select committee, Lord Whitty said tax incentives for biodiesel and bioethanol production should be increased to help build a domestic biofuels industry. For more see: www.parliament.uk/parliamentary_committees/environment__food_and_rural_affairs/efra_biofuels.cfm Lord Whitty said the 20p cut agreed by the Treasury in 2002 proved too small. An EU directive may set ambitious targets for biofuel use and would need about 10 per cent of arable farmland in England to grow crops for domestic fuel use.
