| 18/08/03 | Manufacturing still in decline - CBI | The Confederation of British industry (CBI) says small UK firms have seen demand fall continuously for two and a half years. The CBI's quarterly survey of small and medium-sized enterprises in manufacturing showed orders fell for the tenth three-month period in a row between April and June. | 07/06/04 | May CV registrations are best in 15 years | Figures released by SMMT on 4 June, reveal the strongest May new CV registrations for 15 years. A total of 30,491 registrations were reported in May 2004, up 7.8 per cent on the 2003 figure. Year-to-date figures show a similar rise of 7.2 per cent. Total registrations from January to May hit 158,247 units, with growth of 8.5 per cent coming in the light CV sector. Light CVs have also taken the lion's share of the 2004 market, with 133,708 new models hitting UK roads. SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan commented, 'The growth in registrations confirms a solid and positive trend in the CV market. | 20/09/04 | Mercedes dealer hits target | Mercedes-Benz truck and van dealer Commercial Motors (South-West) says Target Express' plan to standardise its fleet and offer its franchisees good deals on vans and trucks is paying dividends. The dealer sold its first vehicles to Target Express Parcels a year ago and since then the orders have come thick and fast, with more than 50 Mercedes Sprinter vans and half a dozen Atego rigids delivered. Target Express drivers whose vehicles come due for replacement, and those just joining can get low-cost vehicle acquisition deals. | 28/01/03 | Mercedes win container transport deal | O'Connor Transport of Widnes just took 14 three-axle Actros tractor units and three Atego 18 tonners, the first Mercedes into the 72 strong fleet. The new trucks will help distribute some 70,000 containers a year. The decision follows a successful test programme and enthusiastic reaction from drivers. | 06/01/2003 | MFI chooses Daf for home deliveries | Furniture retailer MFI is adding 28 new Daf LF 45 trucks to its 280 strong home‑delivery fleet. MFI will run the new 7.5 and 12 tonne trucks out of its nine home‑delivery centres in the UK. Each of the new trucks has a JC Payne demountable box body. The 12 tonners will run as drawbar rigs. | 19/02/03 | MG Rover vans | In a surprise move MG Rover has entered the light CV market for the first time, with new, car-derived vans. These, based on the company's best selling Rover 25 and MG ZR models, come with a choice of 14 and 1.8 litre petrol or two-litre turbo-diesel engines. Approved LPG conversions are available on the 1.4 litre petrol models. The cubic load capacity is 979 litres with a payload of up to 520kg. The company says the new vans give the best load-space in their class, with a flat and lined load space, partial steel bulkhead and load lashing points. There is a wide range of options from full height load grilles through parking sensors to satellite navigation systems. | 10/06/03 | Michelin at IWM | Michelin will show its range of municipal industry tyre at this year’s Institute of Waste Management Exhibition in Torquay. Michelin will also promote its range of tyre service packages and products including its Encore one-stop shop deal for tyre retreading and casing management. Amongst the tyres on show will be the new XZY 3, Michelin's wide single tyre for trailer and front steer axles, designed for the toughest of driving conditions. This tyre has 25 per cent more usable tread rubber and large tread blocks to give increased resistance to tearing and scrubbing, Michelin says. Its stand is M60 on the Middle Green.
