| 10/01/05 | Another excellent year for Daf | Daf Trucks says it had another excellent year in 2004, taking 12,613 registrations in it fifth straight year of volume growth. UK boss Stuart Hunt says Daf was clear market leader in 2004 with an increased volume over 2003. Daf’s lead over the second and third placed manufacturers, Mercedes Benz and Iveco, was 4.6% points and 8.2% points respectively. 'In the ‘real’ truck market, over 7.4 tonnes, Daf’s share was 25.1%, some 50% ahead of the second placed manufacturer at 16.7%, said Hunt. 'In heavy trucks, over 15 tonnes, Daf was again clear market leader at 23.0% extending its lead over both Scania and Volvo in second and third place respectively. In light trucks Daf increased its share to 21.4% with its highest volume for three years.' Hunt says 2005 is difficult to forecast with the impact of digital tacho law very hard to predict, but reckons the result will be 'fairly similar' to last year. | 14/01/04 | Another first for Iveco? | Iveco's UK subsidiary believes it is leading the industry by being the first to publish its guidelines for buy-back vehicle returns. The firm won't do a buy-back deal unless the customer signs an agreement that defines the return condition of the vehicle. Contained in a clearly written and well illustrated booklet, the aims are to help operators and dealers understand the conditions the firm expects for its buy-backs. Iveco also says the booklet highlights routine many maintenance and driver care points that can help operators cut general running costs as well as avoiding the likelihood of charges when vehicles are returned in a poorly maintained condition. Iveco asks the FTA's inspectors to look at each vehicle returned and will charge the customer the cost of returning a vehicle to an agreed condition. Industry observers say most other truck and van makers do something broadly similar but think Iveco is ahead of the game with the simplicity and clarity of its scheme.
