28/04/039 million parts deal for Unitec Unitec, the Optare Group's all makes after-sales parts and service operation just landed a long-term deal with bus operator First Group. The three-year deal involves the annual supply of 3 million worth of air brake equipment to all First Group's depots and workshops across the country. Unitec will supply only genuine equipment from Knorr-Bremse and Wabco. FirstGroup, with a fleet of 10,000 vehicles, is one of Britain's largest bus operators.

25/11/04Accord roll out Tranman across the UKAccord plc, a support service supplier to councils and others, is using the RAC’s Tranman fleet management software to help manage its 3,000 strong vehicle and plant fleet at sites across the UK. The Tranman software identifies users as they log into the system and displays only the relevant operating company information. This means that local users benefit from autonomous operations whilst providing Accord with full visibility of its entire fleet operation. Accord plc is made up of 15 operating companies located right across the country from Chichester to Cumbria.

14/03/03Adastra cuts emissions Adastra, on stand 5-223 at the CV Show says it has come up with a unique and cost-effective solution for cutting diesel exhaust emissions without compromising engine performance. The company says its new technology can be fitted to both old and new commercial vehicles, from taxis to trucks.

17/03/04.Add hydrogen - cut diesel by 20 per centCanada's Dynamic Fuel Systems Inc on stand 9-301 at the CV Show says its Jet Star on-board hydrogen generator saves between 15 and 20 per cent fuel. The unit, fitted in two hours to a truck, makes hydrogen and pipes it into the engine. The firm's Thomas Fairfull says he cautiously tells operators that they’ll cut their fuel bills by between 15 and 25 per cent . So far there are some 1,700 trucks in service in Canada and he says many get bigger savings. Fairfull also says there are big cuts in carbon emissions too. The system runs successfully with engines from 250 to 450 bhp and the company expects to sign deals with European distributors shortly after the CV Show. Fairfull also expects deals to fit Jet Star kits to European buses soon.

25/02/03Advisory system for tired driversAstid Pernix will launch a new advisory system for tired drivers. Called Astid, the company says the system has been developed using the findings of 10 years' work at the Loughborough Sleep Research Centre by Professor Jim Horne and Dr Louise Reyner. The system continuously assesses factors known to contribute to driver tiredness and if necessary sets off visible or audible alarms. Astid says its equipment and software could be built in to as original equipment or can be retro-fitted to existing vehicles.
