| 09/12/03 | Prince Micheal road safety awards | 17 organisations and individuals collected awards at a ceremony hosted by RoadSafe last week. Speaking at the event, Prince Micheal of Kent said: 'I applaud the way in which the road safety community in Britain is working together to share ideas and encourage innovation.' One award went to The Freight Transport Association for its work with the sleep research unit at Loughborough University to produce the FTA Guide to Driver Fatigue. Another went to the Sleep Awareness Research team at Loughborough, led by Professor Jim Horne. TRL got an award for its 'pioneering work on road safety in developing countries.' BBC Three Counties Radio's John Pilgrim's use of radio as a forum for better education and publicity for road safety won him an award too. | 10/01/05 | It's a record - highest annual CV registrations | 2004 broke all records at 389, 923 units, up 9.5 per cent on 2003. December CV registrations were also the highest ever, at 28,470. Overall, most of the action comes from light commercials, particularly medium vans, from 1.8 to 2.6 tonnes gvw. 'These figures show 2004 commercial vehicle registrations breaking all UK records,' said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. '2004 has been a terrific year for vans and trucks in the UK, with registrations breaking record after record. Importantly, a wide range of factors drive demand, meaning it is reassuringly durable. And encouragingly, order books are strong too, so 2005 will be another very good year.' |
| 18/08/03 | CV Show forges ahead | 289 exhibitors have already signed up for 35,000 m2 of stand space at next year's CV Show. All the major van, truck and trailer makers will be there, as will leading CV body builders and major component makers. 'All this is great news', says Bob Sockl, of chief executive of Crystal Communications, the sales and marketing consultancy to the RHA, SOE and SMMT partnership that owns and operates the CV Show. 'And we're particularly pleased with the growing number of enquiries from continental European companies, telling us they want to be at the CV Show.' The CV Show opens at the National Exhibition Centre, near Birmingham, England, on Tuesday 23 March, 2004 and closes the following Thursday. | 16/12/02 | High-spec Scanias for AAG | AAG Distribution of Soham in Cambridgeshire just added eight high-spec Scania Topline cab tractors to its 215 strong fleet. The new trucks are all Scania 124 twin-steer 420 models. The Topline cabs are part of a driver retention programme. | 28/04/03 | Mobile tyre fitting to take it 25 per cent of fleet market by 2007? | AA Tyre Fit says it expects mobile tyre fitting will take more than a quarter of fleet tyre sales and by 2007. Presently the share of the sector held by mobile tyre fitting is less than five per cent. The company says it is aggressively promoting mobile tyre fitting and will have 500 of its own mobile tyre fitting units on the road on the road by the end of 2006, supported by additional units run by members of its network. | 28/04/03 | New Look Berlingos for Baldwin | A Baldwin & Co of Leeds, a family-owned business employing over 350 skilled trades people, just bought 20 New Look Berlingo 800 DLX vans. The New Look Berlingos will go to work for joiners, plumbers and electricians, carrying their tools, equipment and materials. Baldwin's associated in-house and third party fleet maintenance operation has racked the vans to suit the individual requirements of each driver. Baldwin expects its New Look Berlingos to do some 75,000 miles in three years. The vans are all on contract hire via Appleyard Vehicle Contracts.
