LDV says the Convoy is the UK third best selling vehicle in its market. | 11/12/2002 | 100,000th Vivaro | The IBC Vehicles plant in Luton just celebrated the production of its 100,000th Vauxhall Vivaro. The new van, a special white panel van model went to Vauxhall fleet customer, Scottish Power, as part of a deal for 10,000 vehicles signed earlier this year following a live on-line electronic auction. The Vivaro is the General Motors version of the joint venture between GM and Renault, whose model is the Trafic. The two models shared the Van of the Year Trophy earlier this year. | 07/06/04 | 1,000 new jobs at Unipart | The Unipart Group of Companies will be creating up to 1,000 new jobs across the UK in the next 12 months to support growth in new business. In the past two years UGC has won substantial contracts with household names like Boots, Halfords, Homebase, Vodafone and '3' and the new jobs will be created in line with the implementation and development of these new deals. Commenting on the news group chief executive John Neill CBE said, 'The last six months have seen the group strengthen its position as a leading logistics provider with the successful commencement of a number of high-profile contracts for Unipart.' Andrew Smith, MP for Oxford East and secretary of state for work and pensions added, 'This is great news for Oxford. Unipart is one of our biggest companies and one of the largest private companies in the UK. I'm delighted they are creating quality jobs in the Oxford area.' | 27/01/05 | 12,414 bus and coach registrations in 2004 | Figures from the SMMT show December bus and coach registrations, at 1,061 were 6.4% down on December 2003, but took the annual total to 12,414. December was another weak month for bus demand, down on December 2003 and the ninth month of year on year decline in 2004. The annual total of 12,414 was 7.8% down on the total for 2003. Modest growth in single deck buses from 3.5 to 16t gvw helped to temper the declines in mini and double-deck buses. Coaches were 6.0 per cent up year on year in 2004. The rolling year figures for buses trended down during 2004. Annual coach registrations were a success story in 2004 at 1,095 units year end, an increase of six per cent over the previous year. | 21/01/03 | £12m trailer deal | SDC Trailers just said it has won probably the largest trailer order in the UK in the last 12 months. The deal is for 750 trailers for Hill Hire plc, one of the UK’s truck and trailer rental businesses and comprises curtain-siders, GRP box-van trailers and container-carrying skeletals. Industry sources suggest the deal is worth some £12m at retail prices. Hill Hire will run its new trailers from 10 sites around the UK and says the order is a key part of a fleet updating and expansion plan. | 25/02/03 | £15,000 prize at the CV Show | Insurance broker Simon Brooke and Partners of Leeds and SBP Chapman Stevens from High Wycombe will be on stand 4-581 at the CV Show. The company aims to extend its market share in the road haulage sector and so plans a competition from its stand in which an operator could win £15,000 for guessing a registration number. | 10/01/05 | 170 bhp option for Daewoo Avia. | Avia Trucks UK Ltd says it now has 170 bhp variants of its Prague built Daewoo Avia 7.5 and 9.0 tonners. Like the standard 150 bhp model, the higher powered models use the Darlington built Cummins engines - producing 125kw (170bhp) at 2500 rpm and 600Nm of torque between 1200-1700 rpm. | 22/09/03 | 18 more Alphas for Isotank | Isotank Services just bought 18 more Foden Alfa tractors for its UK distribution fleet. The deal follows the success of its 54 strong Foden fleet, on an intensive four-year programme. The first of the new Fodens have 420 bhp Cummins diesels and Foden’s XL high-roof sleeper cab. | 23/06/03 | 2,000th Mack truck from New River Valley plant | Mack Trucks said the 2,000th Mack highway truck rolled off the line at the New River Valley assembly plant recently. The milestone at the Dublin, Virginia comes six months after Mack stopped making CH and Vision highway trucks at its plant in Winnsboro, South Carolina. The last Mack came off the line in Winnsboro on November 8 last year and the plant closed on November 15. Less than three weeks later, on December 4, 2002, the first Mack built at New River Valley drove off the plant's new Area South line for delivery to the customer.
